M. R. Powell

December 12, 1939 — October 5, 2023

M. R. Powell was born in Johnson County, Georgia on December 12, 1939. He was the son of Milton Russell and Hazel Powell of Kite, Georgia.

M. R.'s father passed away when he was 5, which left his mother to raise three children on her own at the age of 21. At a young age, he developed the love for reading which carried on throughout his life. Crossword puzzles were nothing to him. He could solve them in a matter of minutes. We are pretty sure there never was a puzzle published in the Courier Herald he didn't solve. While history was one of his passions, there wasn't any subject that he did not know or couldn't give an opinion on. Many hours were spent around the table discussing a multitude of topics including family history, building projects, and the world today. After graduation, he moved to Atlanta and worked for the the federal transportation department surveying and taking pictures preparing for the construction of the interstate. He then went on to join the United States Air Force where he was able to travel to many different places all over the world. After 12 years and obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, he and his family moved to Dublin. Professionally, he was a meticulous carpenter who left his mark on many places in Georgia and South Carolina. A man of few words, none that knew him, especially family, ever doubted the love he had for them.

He is predeceased in death by his mother, father and brother Larry. Most importantly, he was predeceased by his loving and patient wife Edna with whom he shared three daughters-Stephanie Campbell(Alan) of Ponte Vedra, Florida, Caroline Underwood(Tanner) of Dublin, and Ashley Manack(Todd) of Statesboro, Georgia. He is also survived by a sister JoAnn Potts(Donnie) of Thomson, Georgia and a sister in law Helen Powell of Dublin.

He was the loving grandfather of Michael Caneega(Ivey), Avery Campbell, Zac Keyton, Logan Campbell, Connor Calhoun, Callista Campbell, Jake Underwood ,Ty Underwood and a host of nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his furry companion, Sam.
