Funeral services for Marilyn Darley Sweat will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2026, at Oaky Grove Church, with burial to follow in Westview Cemetery. Pastor Tom Akins will officiate.
Marilyn Darley Sweat, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away surrounded by the love of her family. Born on July 18, 1949, in Treutlen County, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Ruby and J.C. Darley. She was raised in a family grounded in faith and attended Midway United Methodist Church, where her parents now rest.
At just 13 years old, Marilyn met the love of her life, Kenneth Sweat. Their love story blossomed into nearly 56 years of marriage, a partnership filled with devotion, laughter, music, dancing, and the blessing of raising two daughters together. Through every season of life, Kenneth remained the center of Marilyn’s heart, and their enduring love served as an example to all who knew them.
Marilyn was a devoted wife and mother whose greatest joy was caring for her family. She chose to stay home with her daughters until they had completed elementary school, dedicating herself fully to creating a loving and nurturing home. Later, she worked for Electo-Mech Scoreboard Company, where she formed lasting friendships. Though she eventually retired, she remained one of “the girls” and looked forward each year to welcoming her coworkers into her home for their cherished Christmas gathering.
Known for her kind and generous spirit, Marilyn treasured her friends and extended family. She will be remembered for her warm smile, infectious laughter, and genuine compassion for others. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—watching the Atlanta Braves, enjoying classic black-and-white westerns, and spending time with the people she loved most.
The role she cherished above all others was that of “Nana.” The arrival of her three grandchildren brought immeasurable joy to her life. She took great pride in cheering them on from the sidelines, the bleachers, and beyond the fences, never missing an opportunity to support and celebrate them. Through her example, she taught them to appreciate life’s simple blessings, to treasure family, and to recognize each day as a precious gift from the Lord.
Marilyn leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth Sweat of Wrightsville; her daughters, Kimberly Greenway (Charles) of Wrightsville and Vicki Hein (Eric) of Bluffton; her cherished grandchildren, Aiden Greenway, Kendall Greenway, and Ella Rae Hein; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members whom she dearly loved.
Pallbearers will be Aiden Greenway, Dwain Sweat, Donnie Sweat, Andy Dixon, Wendell Walden, and Lewis Akridge.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2026, in the Richard N. Stanley Jr. Memorial Chapel of Stanley Funeral Home.
Marilyn’s life was a beautiful reflection of love, faith, kindness, and family. Though she will be deeply missed, the memories she created and the love she shared will remain a lasting comfort to all who were blessed to know her.
Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Wrightsville Chapel has charge of the funeral arrangements.
