Funeral services for Marvin Luther Thompson, age 88, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Mt. Olive Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Jimmy Wright and Rev. L. T. Logue officiating with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Thompson was born on November 7, 1933 in Adrian, Georgia. He was the son of the late Harvey and Mattie Mae Rowland Thompson. He was a devoted husband and family man. A man of faith, he was a member of Mt. Olive Church of the Nazarene, where he served as a board member, youth director, and member of the quartet. He worked for the Johnson County School System as a school bus driver and was a cattle farmer. He retired as Territory Sales Manager at Lovett and Tharpe. He is also preceded in death by his siblings, Herman Thompson, Blanche Smith, James Thompson, and Roy Thompson. Mr. Thompson passed away Monday, April 18, 2022 in Memorial Health Center in Savannah.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Willette Rowland Thompson of Wrightsville, son, Marty Thompson (Mary Beth) of Wrightsville, two daughters, Lynn Jordan and Patti Loring (Merritt) of Wrightsville, brother, Carl Thompson of East Dublin, sister, Doris Peace of Cartersville, grandchildren, Joey Sumner (Christie), Robert Harper (Carla), Jessica Thigpen (Jonathan), Emily Thompson Wyatt (Chad), Joeli Thompson (deceased), Avery Thompson, Landry Thompson, and Kimberly Jordan Moore (Cole), 10 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. to 1:45 P.M. at the church prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Robert Harper, Joey Sumner, Avery Thompson, Landry Thompson, Jonathan Thigpen, Cole Moore, Seth Sumner and Walker Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobo Thompson, Steve Freeman, Teddy Bailey, Autry Brantley, Doyle Knight, Billy Thompson, Merritt Loring and Jerry Rowland.
Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Wrightsville Chapel is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
