Mary Carter Smith went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 12, 2020. Funeral services will be held at Stanley Funeral Home at 3:00 pm on Sunday, August 16, 2020 in the Richard N. Stanley Memorial Chapel, with internment to follow at Piney Mount United Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. David Miller will officiate.
Mrs. Smith was born September 28, 1933 in Wrightsville, GA to the late Rev. Fred and Alma Riner Carter. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Henry F. Smith, infant son, Reginald "Reggie" Smith, brother, Kenneth Carter, and sister-in-law Betty Pounds Carter. She retired from Robins Air Force Base after 36 years of service. She was the former owner of five Uniform Factory Outlets in Tennessee and Kentucky. Mrs. Smith was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, Warner Robins, GA and attended First United Methodist, Sevierville, TN while living in Tennessee.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her sons, Freddie Smith (Carol), Dublin, GA, Kirk Smith, Centerville, GA, and daughter, Lisa Smith, Sevierville, TN; brothers, Johnnie "Pat" Carter, Thomson, GA, Russell Carter (Anita), Englewood, CO and sister, Judy Carter Smith (John), Cochran, GA; grandchildren, Crissi Smith, Christopher Pittman, Adam Favors, Michael Favors and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Danny Carter, Ken Carter, Johnnie Smith, Benny Smith, Christopher Pittman, and Jason Smith.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Adam Favors, Michael Favors, and Donnie Carter.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, August 16, 2020 from 1:45 pm – 2:45 pm. Social Distancing guidelines will be in effect, and seating capacity will be limited as we are following the guidelines of the local health district and the CDC.
The family is very appreciative of the University of Tennessee Medical Center Hospice Team and Rev. David Zavona of First UMC Sevierville, TN for their expertise and compassion while assisting Mary in her final days to a peace that passes understanding.
