Mary Elizabeth Flanders Veal was born on May 26, 1917. She was raised on the clay roads in the Buckeye community. She moved from there to Dublin where she graduated from Dublin High School. After graduation she and her family moved to the Moore Station/Shoemake community. At the close of World War II, she met and married J.B. Veal in 1947. They made a home on the Veal farm where she raised two sons, Jimmy and Tommy. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, working in the garden and making sure there were three meals on her table each day. She also made sure that there was a snack there at 4 o'clock each school day when her boys got home. As time passed, she played an important part in raising her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. There was a special place in her heart for children. She will be remembered for her independence, her quick wit and her "come back" comments. She was the oldest member of Pine Hill United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was faithful in many other church related functions.

She was the last of her family generation. We are left with many great memories and these words of wisdom, "In every day there is a little sunshine."
