Funeral services will be held for Mrs. Mary Joan Priest Penney, age 70, at 2:00 pm, Monday, December 29, 2014 at Third Street Baptist Church in Cordele, Georgia, with interment to follow at Sunnyside Cemetery. Mrs. Penney was born July 4, 1944 in Ashburn, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, the late W.B. Priest, Doris Avery Priest and her brother Gary Priest. She retired from South Central Health District and has always made it her life's passion to provide a warm and loving home for her family. Mrs. Penney passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014. She will be greatly missed by her seventh grade sweetheart and husband of 51 years, Tony Penney and their children, Simone and Paul Presley of Dublin, Kyle and Jennifer Penney of Perry, Kurt Penney and Tyrone Penney of Dublin. Her grandchildren are Adrian Edge, Micaela, Gillian, and Peyton Presley, Caylee Turner, Megan Parrish, Ben Mimbs, Amanda Parker and LaRae, Evan and Cade Penney. Her great-grandchildren are Sawyer and Walker Howard. Joan was survived by her brother Billy Wayne Priest of Cordele, Georgia and Sandra Davis of Dublin. Joan, or Grander as her grandchildren called her, was blessed with many God-given talents which she routinely displayed. She was an avid gardener, cook, artist, decorator, counselor and mentor. Her faith in God has sustained her through life. She would always remind her family "this too shall pass" which is a testament of her life. Pallbearers will be Scott Davis, Phil Davis, Josh Davis, Evan Penney, Bill Priest, and Todd Priest. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday, December 28, 2014 at the funeral home. Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory has charge of funeral arrangements.
