Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Killingsworth Powell, age 72, of Dublin, GA, went to be with her Lord August 20, 2016, after a lengthy illness. A lifelong resident of Laurens County, Beth was born February 12, 1944 to Alton Lewis Killingsworth, Sr. and Myrtle Alice Sweat Killingsworth. Beth graduated from Dudley High School. She was an active member of Montrose Baptist where she taught Sunday school, Bible study and VBS. She was a hairstylist by profession, and was co-owner of Headquarters Beauty Salon for years before her retirement. She enjoyed traveling and visited places such as Alaska, Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. An avid gardener, Beth took pleasure in working in her flower garden and was especially proud of her daylilies.
Beth was a loving wife to B.J. and was devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Beth was preceded in death by her son Richard Eugene Upshaw, and her brothers Alton Lewis (Doc) Killingsworth, Jr., John Harris (Jack) Killingsworth, Robert Eugene (Gene) Killingsworth, and Charles Ellliott (Charlie) Killingsworth.
Beth is survived by her husband of 35 years, Billy Joe (B.J.) Powell, son Joseph Alton (Jody) Upshaw (Tami), daughter Mary Alise Upshaw, Billy Joe (Joey) Powell, Jr., and brothers Benjamin (Ben) Ferrell Killingsworth (Peggie) and Joseph Edgar (Chip) Killingsworth (Sharon). She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Montrose Baptist Church in Montrose, Ga. on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 10:00 am with Rev. Randy Mimbs officiating and burial will follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday, August 22, 2016 at Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory in Dublin.
Pallbearers will be Freeman Harrison, Jonathan Kowtko, Benny Killingsworth, Bryant Lott, Billy Touchberry, and Tim Lentile.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Serenity Hospice in Dublin or to the Montrose Baptist Church building fund.
