Mary Jo Stephens

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Jo Hutcheson Stephens, age 81, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 6, 2017 at Moore's Chapel United Methodist Church with interment to follow at Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Randy Adams and Mr. Dave Curry will officiate. Mrs. Stephens was born August 12, 1935 in Wrightsville, Georgia and lived most of her young life in the Meeks Community. She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Linton and Arlie Flanders Hutcheson, her husband, Wesley Stephens and a daughter, Beth Stephens. She was a graduate of Adrian High School and attended Andrew College, the University of Georgia and Georgia College. She received her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and her Masters and Specialist degrees in Education. Mary Jo taught for over 30 years in the Johnson County School System. She was very active in her church and community. She was a member and pianist of Moore's Chapel United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She also served as Director of the Johnson County Development Authority and was also a 1976 founding member of the 4th of July Celebration Committee. Mrs. Stephens passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Serenity Place. She is survived by two daughters, Teri (Mark) Crosby and Tina (Billy) Barrs both of Wrightsville, five grandchildren, Matthew S. Crosby, Hannah (Skip) Skipper, Wesley Huffmaster, Lara Beth (Josh) Johns and Emily Barrs and three-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Thursday, January 5, 2016 at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Matthew Crosby, Skip Skipper, Wesley Huffmaster, Josh Johns, Linton Hutcheson, George Milligan, Van Phillips and Andy Thompson. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made, in her memory, to Moore's Chapel Volunteer Fire Department, 1426 Gumlog Road, Wrightsville, Georgia 31096 or the Moore's Chapel United Methodist Church, c/o/ Mary E. Pollett, 1330 Power Line Road, Wrightsville, Georgia 31096. Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Wrightsville Chapel has charge of funeral arrangements.
