Michael Robert “Mike” Garrett, 62, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026, after an extended illness.
Born on March 3, 1964, in Metter, Georgia, Mike was the son of the late Reverend William E. Garrett and Vivian Garrett. As a child, his family later relocated to East Dublin, where he was raised. The son of a Baptist preacher, Mike grew up in church and remained rooted in the Baptist faith throughout his life. He graduated from East Laurens High School with the Class of 1982.
Mike was a hardworking man who dedicated 18 years of service to Mohawk before beginning a career with Best Buy. During his time there, he was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer in 2006. Through remarkable determination and strength, he overcame the disease, a testament to his resilient spirit. In later years, Mike faced many personal struggles, but through it all, one thing never changed—his deep love for his family.
Those who knew Mike will remember his outgoing personality. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. He was a jokester with a quick wit, a bit of a smart aleck, and someone who loved making others laugh. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors, and he had a special place in his heart for cats.
Above all else, Mike treasured his family. His greatest joy came from being “PePa” to his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Sonya Branch Garrett; his children, Sheena Hoke, Matt (Whitney) Garrett, and Blake (Logan) Garrett; his cherished grandchildren, Kimbree, Levi, and Jada Garrett; Aubree, Daxton, and Tinsley Hoke; and Presleigh Willis and Kylan Sumner. He is also survived by his brother, Monte Garrett, along with numerous extended family members and dear friends who will miss him greatly.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his grandson, Bo Garrett; his brother, Bill Garrett; his sister, Kathy Garrett; and his son-in-law Bob Hoke.
Though Mike’s journey was not without challenges, those who loved him choose to remember the laughter he shared, the stories he told, the strength he showed, and the unwavering love he had for his family. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
