Myron "Mike" Fletcher Sweat, 88, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning at Twelve Oaks Assisted Living facility in Dublin, Georgia. A Soperton native, Mike spent the last 49 years of his life in Brewton, Georgia. Mike leaves a profound legacy, both professionally and personally.
Mike was a proud veteran of the United States Army 24th Infantry Division, 21st Infantry Regiment, Korean Conflict.
Mike was a teacher, coach, and school administrator. He began his career in education at Wheeler County, moving to Effingham County, then Harlem and finally East Laurens High School in 1974 where he made his professional home until his retirement in 1990. He was an advocate for kids and worked tirelessly in and out of the school systems for the benefit of his students.
Coach Sweat coached football, girls' basketball, and multiple other sports during his tenure as a coach, but his passion was baseball. He coached several successful teams at Harlem and East Laurens High Schools. He impacted numerous lives through his coaching as evidenced by East Laurens naming the former high school baseball field in his honor. Mike taught civics, history, and economics, but he always enjoyed teaching Georgia history the most. In Mike's later years at East Laurens, he was an administrator and a favorite of the kids for his humor and compassion.

Sweat and two grandchildren, Kamryn Elizabeth Sweat and Wyatt Fletcher Sweat. The grandchildren affectionately called him "Papa The Great" and they were his reason for living as his health declined. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces.
Mike was a charter member of the Harlem Lions Club, a longtime member of Boiling Springs United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School and was Chairman of the Parish/Pastor Relations Committee, served on numerous school committees and booster clubs through the years and served as a director for Altamaha EMC for 33 years.
