Newt Powell

Mr. Walter Newton Powell, age 73, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2016. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 6, 2016 at Corinth United Methodist Church with Rev. Donna Avera officiating. Mr. Powell was born July 7, 1942 in Kite, Georgia; he was preceded in death by his parents, the late Cordie Lanier Powell and Nora Ethelene Harrison Powell Schwalls, three brothers, John H. Powell, Bennie V. Powell and Charles L. Powell and 3 sisters, Carrie E. Powell Hudson, Henrietta Powell Flanders and Anzell Powell Williams. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served with the United States Army. He later worked as a civilian employee in communications. He was also formerly employed as a maintenance supervisor with Ma Bell Telephone Company. He is survived by his daughter, Tracy Borja of Kite, a son, Robert Newton Powell of Wadley, his soulmate, Melanie De'Angelis of Kite, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family will greet friends following the service at Corinth United Methodist Church. Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Wrightsville Chapel has charge of funeral arrangements.
