Funeral services for Reginald Bruce Hand, age 86, of Hazlehurst, Georgia, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Satilla Freewill Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Bob Williams will officiate.
Reginald is the second born son of Carlos Hand and Gertrude Williams Hand. He and his brothers Carlos, Richard, and Larry grew up working on the family farm in Hazlehurst, cultivating tobacco, cotton, vegetables, and prize winning blueberries. He attended the rural Altamaha Elementary School and then Jeff Davis High School, where he graduated in 1954. He later graduated from John Marshall Law School.
Reginald moved to the Atlanta area and spent approximately 36 years of his professional life at GMC by starting on the line and moving on to quality control. He married Mary Phillips with whom he raised his twins Stephen and Stephanie along with their sister Julie near Hapeville.
Following a divorce, Reginald later moved to Griffin and married Kathy Kilpatrick.
Reginald was a kind of inventor who often said he had "never seen a broken thing that he couldn't fix." He loved to help people by repairing refrigerators, air conditioners, or minor home repairs for them. He could "fix" anything with a rubber band!
The funeral service will be at Satilla Baptist Church. As a young boy, he and his brothers got up before daybreak to light the fires to heat Satilla Church. Their grandfather Aaron Hand and his wife Ada maintained the church as well as its grounds and Aaron occasionally preached. Reginald passed away Saturday, December 18, 2021, and will be laid to rest beside his mother and father.
Reginald is survived by his son Stephen (Michelle) and their children Stephen Joseph and Jennifer; his daughter Stephanie (George) and their children Grace and Dylan; and his daughter Julie. Reginald has 3 great grandchildren. His stepson is Ryan Harbour.
His brother Carlos and his daughter Star; his brother Richard and his daughters Joy, Jeanne, and Janet; his brother Larry (Midge) and his sons Terry and Tommy and stepchildren Billy and Owen.
Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Dublin Chapel has charge of arrangements.
