Richard David Gierka

Funeral services for Richard David Gierka, age 67 will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 26, 2021, at Poplar Springs North Baptist Church with interment with military honors at 10:00 A.M. Friday, August 27, 2021 at Andersonville National Cemetery. Rev. Wes Pinkley will officiate. Mr. Gierka was born April 5, 1954, in Cohoes, NY. He was the son of the late Edward Joseph and Helen Inez Meachum Gierka. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Jody Gierka and John Gierka. He has lived in Laurens County for the past 27 ½ years coming from Melbourne, FL. He served in the United States Air Force during Desert Storm. He was a member of Poplar Springs North Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and helped with the Nursing Home Ministry. He was a retired Biomedical Equipment Technician for the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center. Mr. Gierka passed away Sunday, August 22, 2021, at Fairview Park Hospital. Mr. Gierka is survived by his wife, Leigh Carter Gierka; 2 sons, Chad Evan (Maresa) Gierka, and Aaron Andrew Gierka; a daughter, Shelley Gierka (David) Hathcock; 4 brothers, Edward Gierka, Jr, Robert (Karen Duke) Gierka, Bill (Tina McMahon) Gierka, and Joe (Patty) Gierka; 3 sisters, Rita Shapiro, Sue (Bud) Prescott, and Kim (Carl) Noakes; and a grandson, Jackson Daniel Hathcock. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at Poplar Springs North Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be the deacons of Poplar Springs North Baptist Church. Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Dublin Chapel has charge of funeral arrangements.
