Funeral services for Robert E. Helton, Jr., age 86 will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, October 28, 2015 in the Jefferson Street Baptist Church Chapel, with interment to follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Darren Talley and Rev. Jay Moore will officiate.
Mr. Helton was born on October 3, 1929 in Nicklesville, Georgia. He was the son of the late Robert Earl Helton, Sr. and Mattie Mae Howell Helton. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Dorothy Helton Taylor, James Buford Helton, Shirley Helton Brack, and Raymond Morris Helton. He served in the United States Army where he was in the I & R Platoon, HQS & HQS Company, 17th Infantry Region, 7th Division-Korea from May 4, 1951 – March 4, 1952. He was a Combat Veteran where he served on the Front Line. Mr. Helton was Honorably Discharged from the United States Army at the rank of Corporal. He was a member of the American Legion. He was an avid outdoorsman where he loved hunting, fishing, and farming. He was a member of Jefferson Street Baptist Church. Mr. Helton passed away Monday, October 26, 2015 at Regency Hospital in Macon.
Mr. Helton is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Wanelle Gay Helton of Dublin, 2 sons, David E. "Buster" Helton of Dublin, and Robert F. "Frank" (Toni) Helton of Dublin, 2 daughters, Debra "Debbie" (Carl) Joiner of Smyrna, and Donna (Dwayne) Lumley of Dublin, a brother, Julian (Joan) Helton of Dublin, 2 sisters-in-law, Evelyn Helton of Dublin, and Edna Helton of Nicklesville, 9 grandchildren, Carl E. "Trey" Joiner, III, Coleman Joiner, Chloe Joiner, Amanda Helton, Aaron Lumley, Autumn Lumley, Hannah Helton, Luke Helton, and David Helton, Jr., and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Carl E. "Trey" Joiner, III, Coleman Joiner, David Helton, Jr., Luke Helton, Aaron Lumley, and Jon Helton.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at the funeral home.
