Robert Thomas “Tom” Rose, born April 6, 1951, in Ashburn, Georgia, passed away peacefully June 26, 2026, in Dublin, Georgia. He leaves behind a remarkable legacy of service, strength, resilience, and unwavering love for his family. Tom was a man defined not only by his accomplishments, but by the quiet integrity, courage, and compassion he carried throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard McRae “Jack” Rose and Martha Sue Barker Rose.
Tom is survived by his loving sister, Jane R. Moore, and his brother, Richard Rose (Dicky); his sons, Bryan Rose and Chance Rose (Alexis Rose); and his cherished grandchildren, Wyatt Rose and Dolly Rose, who brought immense joy and light into his later years. He also leaves behind extended family, dear friends, and fellow veterans who will forever honor his memory.
Tom’s early years were spent in Ashburn, where he grew up working alongside his family on their farm. Life on the farm was rooted in hard work and simple joys, as they raised peanuts, peaches, and melons, and for a brief time, pigs. Those formative years instilled in him a strong work ethic, a deep appreciation for responsibility, and a grounded perspective that would stay with him throughout his life.
Tom proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a U.S. Army Ranger. His time in service reflected extraordinary bravery, sacrifice, and dedication to his fellow soldiers and his nation. He was awarded the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, and three Purple Hearts; distinguished honors that speak to his valor and selflessness in the face of great adversity. Though he rarely spoke of his heroism, those who knew him understood the depth of his courage and the profound impact his service had on shaping his character. His military experience instilled in him a lifelong sense of loyalty, discipline, and brotherhood that he carried with him always.
Following his military service, Tom built a long and successful career in the automotive industry, where he managed multiple dealerships over the years. He was widely respected for his strong leadership, sharp business expertise, and tireless work ethic. More importantly, he was known for the genuine relationships he built with employees, colleagues, and customers alike. Tom had a natural ability to connect with people where he was able to earn trust, offer guidance, and lead by example. His presence left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Tom also had a distinct sense of humor that those closest to him came to know and appreciate deeply. His was a dry, quick wit humor, often subtle, sometimes unexpected, but always perfectly timed. No matter where he was or who he was speaking with, Tom seemed to have a remark ready, a clever response just beneath the surface. Some caught it immediately, others might have missed it altogether, but for those who knew him well, his humor was unmistakable. It was part of his charm and a reflection of his sharp mind bringing lightness to conversations and leaving people smiling long after.
In his retirement years, Tom embraced life with the same passion and spirit that defined him. He found great joy in riding motorcycles, where he experienced a sense of freedom and peace on the open road. He also rekindled and deeply valued the camaraderie of his fellow veterans, particularly the Rangers he served with in Vietnam. These lifelong bonds were a source of pride, comfort, and connection, and remained close to his heart until the very end.
Above all else, Tom’s greatest joy in life was his family. In his later years, nothing meant more to him than the time he spent with his grandchildren, Wyatt and Dolly. They brought him immeasurable happiness and a renewed sense of purpose. He always looked forward to visiting with them.
Tom will be remembered as a man of strength and honor, a devoted father and grandfather, and a loyal friend. His life was one of service, sacrifice, and love, and his legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at later date.
