Roger Edward Wild

September 22, 1946 — June 2, 2022

Roger Edward Wild of Dexter, Georgia, was born September 22,1946 to Edward and Elsie Wild of East Rockaway, New York. He is survived by his siblings Nancy Hoffman (Frank Boykins) of St. Petersburg, FL; Bonnie Patton of Hagerstown, MD; Richard "Rick" Wild (Dewayne Scruggs) of Dade City, FL; and Robert "Bob" Wild of Spring Hill, FL. Roger Wild loved his wife Lily Mae Jarvis Wild so much that he married her twice. They recently celebrated 51 years of marriage. Together they raised a large family of biological, adopted, and foster children. He was "Dad" or "Daddy" to Grace (Steve) Spicer of Dexter, GA; George Wild of Dexter, GA; Katie Wayson of Dexter, GA; Cheryl (JP) Coleman of Dublin, GA; Justin Wild of Macon, GA; Raymond Wild of Rentz, GA; approximately forty foster children; and countless friends of his children whom he also considered his "kids." It was important to him that his home be what he referred to as the Kool Aid house–the place where all of his children and their friends would gather and feel safe, secure, and loved. In addition to his children, he leaves behind thirteen grandchildren: Elizabeth and David; Brittany, Thomas, Scarlett, Ashley, Julia, and Jacob; Charlie, Shawn, and Stacy; Peyton and Emma; and ten great-grandchildren: Hunter, Kamdiyen, Noah, and Izabella; Kaylee, Jade, and Jimmy; Dakota and Ruby; and Titus. Roger lived a life of service. He served honorably with the US Army in the Vietnam War before beginning his career with the US Coast Guard. In 1978, Roger survived the sinking of the USCG Cuyahoga, pulling as many of his crewmates and the young officer trainees to safety as he could. He retired from the Coast Guard in 1986 with a total of twenty-two years' service. For the majority of his post-military career, he served as a rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service. In addition to his service to his country, Roger served his church and community, especially through his involvement in the Christian Motorcyclists Association. He was a Harley Davidson enthusiast, never missing an opportunity for a bike ride. Even after his life was altered dramatically by a traumatic brain injury, he was anxious to ride again. To offer him more support and balance, his bike was equipped with a sidecar. His Harley was more than a hobby; it was the method by which he entertained his kids and grandkids with rides to the Huddle House, by which he raised money and awareness for causes that were important to him, and by which he ministered to the lost. Roger Wild passed into glory on June 2, 2022. Memorial services will be held in the Chan Stanley Memorial Chapel of Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory on Saturday, June 11, at 11:00 A.M.
