Funeral services for Mr. Rowell Aiken Stanley, Sr., age 83 will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 18, 2015 at First United Methodist Church, with interment to follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Thad Haygood, Dr. Jack Key, and Dr. Bob Williams will officiate.
Mr. Stanley was born on January 18, 1932 in Dudley, Georgia. He was the son of the late Pope and Mabel Aiken Stanley. He was a farmer. He served 29 years in the United States Air Force, and Georgia Army National Guard. He was a graduate of Georgia Military College, and University of Georgia. He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he served on the Administration Board. He served as a State Director for Georgia Farm Bureau. He served as a Dudley Boy Scout Leader. He is a current Dudley City Council Member. Mr. Stanley passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Serenity Place.
Mr. Stanley is survived by his loving wife, Faye Stanley of Dudley, 3 sons, Reese P. (Valerie) Stanley of Fernandina Beach, FL, Rowell Aiken "Stan" (Debbie) Stanley, Jr. of Augusta, and Steven V. (Liz) Shipman of Summerville, NC, a daughter, Julie Stanley of Mountain City, TN, and 6 grandchildren, Jennifer A. Stanley, Caroline Stanley, Meredith Stanley, Hallie Noble, Mackenzie Shipman, and Sophie Shipman.
Pallbearers will be Frank Helton, Donnie Graham, Bill Larsen, Ben Snipes, Andy Perry, and Todd Gay.
Honorary Escorts will be John Chappell, Ned Perry, Ed Ware, Bill Gainous, City Council and Mayor of Dudley.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in memory of Mr. Stanley to First United Methodist Church at 305 West Gaines Street, Dublin, Georgia 31021 or to Serenity Place at 504 Parker Dairy Road, Dublin, Georgia 31021.
