Russell Dixon

Funeral services for Russell Dixon, age 82, will be held at 3 P.M., Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Mt. Olive Church of the Nazarene with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Jimmy Wright will officiate.


Mr. Dixon was born on July 28, 1941, in Johnson County, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Piercie and Earline Davis Dixon Douglas; siblings, Arthur Dixon, Annie Blount, Hilda Bray, Earl Dixon, Lanier Dixon, Jane Mason, and Thelma Sweat. He was a devout and loved member of the Mt. Olive Church of the Nazarene where he has served as a board member and Sunday school teacher. HIs strong faith and love for Christ was evident to anyone who met him and he was constantly seeking opportunities to minister to others. This love for spreading the gospel led him to the opportunity to be the lay pastor at St. Mark Church of the Nazarene in Soperton, GA for several years. He continued to serve the community as Coroner of Johnson County for over 20 years which gave him the opportunity to comfort families throughout the community in some of their hardest moments. He spent most of his working years, as he would say, "walking" the floors of the pants factory industry. He was also the owner of his own business, Make A Memory Video, making him often seen at various community events capturing memories for others. His favorite moments were spent with family and friends where he always kept everyone laughing. He absolutely loved playing with his grand and great grandchildren, spending some of his last able days preparing a play space for them in his yard. Mr. Dixon passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at his residence in the presence of many family and friends.


He is survived by his wife, of almost 58 years, Shirley Knight Dixon of Wrightsville; daughter, Connie Brantley (Dale) of Kite; son, Ken Dixon currently residing in South Korea; 1 sister, Linda Douglas of Wrightsville; 3 grandchildren, Amber (Clarke) Attaway, Ansley (Nathan) Oliver, and Russ Dixon; and 3 great grandchildren, Sawyer, Sydney, and Daniel; and numerous extended family members who loved him dearly.


Pallbearers will be Clarke Attaway, Nathan Oliver, Jason Martin, Brantley Martin, Scott Brantley, and Cory Foskey.


The family will receive friends from 6 PM to 8 PM on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Mt. Olive Church of the Nazarene.


Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Wrightsville Chapel has charge of funeral arrangements.
