Sam James Rainey

Graveside funeral services for Sam James Rainey, age 71 will be held at 9:30 AM Monday, September 14, 2020 at Harrelson Family Cemetery in Telfair County. Rev. Doug Bridges will officiate. Mr. Rainey was born January 23, 1949 in Birmingham, Alabama. He was the son of the late Bill Rainey Sr. and Cora Lee Wickware. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Rainey. A resident of Laurens County for the past 37 years, Mr. Rainey served in the United States Army early in life and spent his later years as a commercial truck driver. He was also a member of the American Legion and a motorcycle enthusiast. Mr. Rainey passed away Thursday, September 10, 2020 at the VA Medical Center in Atlanta. Mr. Rainey is survived by his 3 sons, David Wayne Rainey of Dublin, Michael Lee and Tabitha Rainey of Dublin, James Garrett and Robin Rainey of Dexter, a daughter, Eloise Rainey of East Dublin, 2 brothers, Bill Rainey, Jr., and Willie Lee Rainey, his grandchildren Adam Burdeshaw, James Rainey, Jr., Casey Mason, Ashley Williams, Troy Rainey, Dustin Smith, and Chasidy Smith, and 4 great-grandchildren, Bryson Burdeshaw, Bailey Mason, Annaleigh Mason and Cayson Rainey. Social Distancing guidelines will be in effect as we are following the guidelines of the local health district and the CDC. The family is requiring that those who attend wear face masks. Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Dublin Chapel has charge of funeral arrangements.
