Funeral services for SPC Matthew Steven Robert Roland, age 23 will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Dudley Baptist Church, with interment to follow at Union Hill Cemetery in Cochran, Georgia. SPC Roland will receive Military Honors. SPC Roland was born on June 28, 1993 in Cumberland, North Carolina. He was a 2011 graduate of Dublin High School where he served in the ROTC Program . He started his career in 2011 in the United States Army as a Surgical Technician. He was a cavalry scout assigned to A Troop, 5th Squadron, 73rd Calvary Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division. His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Army Achievement Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Army Superior Unit Award, The Global War on Terror Service Medal, The Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and the Parachutist Badge. He was a member of Dudley Baptist Church. SPC Roland passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2016 in Raleigh, NC. SPC Roland is survived by his father and stepmother, Shannon and Michelle Roland of Dublin, his mother, Cayci Gorlitsky of Charleston, SC, maternal grandparents, Sharon and Jack Glover of Canonsburg, PA, Mary and Bruce Hoyer of Dudley, and Jimmy Arnold of Screven, paternal grandparents, David and Carol Roland of Cochran, and 3 sisters and a brother-in-law, Savannah Victoria and Ben Woodford of Hanahan, SC, Samantha Roland of Dublin, and Jillian Gorlitsky, and a brother, Evan Gorlitsky of Charleston, SC. Pallbearers will be Shane Roland, Eric Roland, Dave Roland, Jason Peacock, Marshall Jarriel, and Chris Arnold. SPC Roland will receive Military Honors at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport when arriving on Friday, September 23, 2016 with an escort to follow by the Laurens County Sheriffs Department and Dublin Police Department to Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Dudley Baptist Church. Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Dublin Chapel have charge of funeral arrangements.
