Funeral services for Steven Ryan "Steve-O" Vertin, age 18, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 19, 2024, at the West Laurens High School Gym, with interment to follow at Poplar Springs North Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 A.M. until 10:45 AM on Friday, July 19, 2024, at the West Laurens High School Gym.
Steven was born April 12, 2006, in Dublin, Ga. Steven was a 2024 honor graduate of West Laurens High School and planned to attend Central Georgia Technical College this fall. He was employed with Jimmy Rogers Construction. He was an active member of Poplar Springs North Baptist Church.
Steven played baseball from a young age and volunteered as an umpire with Dudley Little League. He was a member of Skills USA where he competed in brick masonry and Teamworks.
He was an avid fan of wrestling and was a proud supporter of local Laredo wrestling event and promoted merchandise for his hometown favorite, Laser. He enjoyed music, playing drums and guitar, playing video games, riding his dirt bike and motorcycle, fishing, hunting, spending time with friends, family and his church youth group.
Steven was preceded in death by his Nanny, Dorothy Harrison. He passed away Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Savannah University Medical Center following an acute, unexpected illness.
Steven is survived by his parents, Steve and Laura Vertin; sister Kaitlyn; grandmother Brenda Lord, all of Dublin; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers will be Cameron Albritton, Chris Johnson, Chad Odom, Jay Bailey, Jimmy Rogers, Joey Selph, Forrest Jones, George Brack, Jack Wood, Sid Harrison, Jason Locke, and Ross Miles. Honorary pallbearers will be the West Laurens High School Skills USA Teamworks, former baseball teammates and the Poplar Springs North Baptist Church youth group.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Fairview Park Hospital, Laurens County Sheriff's Office, Laurens County EMS and first responders, and Savannah Memorial University Medical Center.
