Teresa Bray Harvey

March 11, 1958 — July 31, 2019

Mrs. Teresa Bray Harvey entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 31, at University Hospital in Augusta as a result of post-surgical complications. Born March 11, 1958 to the late Edwin and Emmie Veal Bray of Johnson County, Teresa spent her professional life as a Public Service Senior Associate employed by the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service. In 1981, she began her career in Baldwin County improving the lives of families through Family and Consumer Science education. In 1990, she moved to Washington County and in 1991 to Johnson County where she also coached and mentored young people in 4-H. She retired from UGA Cooperative Extension as the Southeast District 4-H Program Development Coordinator covering an area compromised of 39-counties. Teresa positively impacted youth, adults, colleagues, and co-workers with whom she came into contact. She truly loved her job, and helping others achieve their potential. She was an active member of, held leadership positions in, and received awards from several Extension Professional Organizations, including Epsilon Sigma Phi, in which she served as State President in 2001-02; the National and Georgia Association of Extension 4-H Agents; and the National and Georgia Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. After her full retirement in 2011, she completed a Master Gardener class and donated more than 50 hours as a volunteer in Bibb County. She was an active member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Coordinator, social committee chair and Sunday School clerk. She was a former Pilot Club of Johnson County member, serving as President for 2 years and helping deliver "Brain Minder", an Alzheimer awareness and education puppet show, to elementary students. She was also a member of the Johnson County Heart Association and assisted with yearly heart walks. Despite her professional accolades and her community involvement, her treasured roles were wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Chris Harvey, her children Andrew (Kathryn) Harvey of Statesboro, and her daughter Emilie (Nick) Kellogg of Spotsylvania, Virginia; and her grandchildren, Kent and Marlie Kate Harvey of Statesboro. She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses: Angela (Jimmy) Blizzard, Robin (Anthony) Parker and niece, Geneve, all of Wrightsville, and Ken Bray of Jefferson. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Chip Bodi and Mr. Ralph Veal. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, August 2, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be: Ron Bray, Robert Veal, Hugh Veal, Veal Moormon, Mal Bray, and Mark Crosby. Honorary pallbearers will be former 4-H co-workers. Donation: flowers or donations to GA 4-H Foundation Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Wrightsville Chapel has charge of funeral arrangements.
