Travis Brown Wood

Funeral services for Travis Brown Wood, age 99 will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 13, 2019 in the Richard N. Stanley, Jr. Memorial Chapel of Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory, with interment to follow at Westview Cemetery. Rev. Nick Campbell will officiate. Mr. Wood was born June 25, 1920 in Tremont, MS. He was the son of the late General Allan and Sarah Alice Thorton Wood. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Annie Blizzard Wood, and 3 brothers, Cratis Wood, Tramel Wood and Bill James "Jinx" Wood. He served in the United States Army and was a WWII Veteran. He has lived in Johnson County since 1946. He was a retired attendant from the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center where he was employed for 45 years. He was also a funeral assistant for Stanley Funeral Home for over 20 years. He was a member of Piney Mount Methodist Church. He was an avid gardener. Mr. Wood passed away Thursday, October 10, 2019 at Fairview Park Hospital. Mr. Wood is survived by his son, Gary Wood of Wrightsville, a brother, Wayne Wood of MS, and a sister, Carolyn Underwood of MS. Pallbearers will be Russell Dixon, Bobby Brown, John McCollum, Jimmy Sumner, and Veal Moorman. Mr. William Hall will serve as a Honorary Pallbearer. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until 1:45 P.M. Sunday, October 13, 2019 at the funeral home. Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Wrightsville Chapel has charge of funeral arrangements.
