At the age of 92, Vivian Ruth Snow Waters, our beloved mother, sister, grandmama, and friend, left the constraints of her earthly body and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 13, 2024. She was most assuredly – and joyously – reunited with her best friend and the love of her life, Carl Waters.
Vivian was the oldest of four children, born February 18, 1932, to Annie Gladys and James Clayton Snow, in Whitt, TX. Vivian and her first husband had two children, Sylvia and Jay. She met her second husband, Carl, a U.S. Army soldier, while taking dancing lessons. They welcomed sons Kenny and Kyle. Carl's 20-year military career took the family to Alabama, Maryland, the Philippines, and Texas before returning to Georgia.
Vivian was a devoted military wife and mother before deciding to focus on her education. A nontraditional student, and a rarity during that time, Vivan earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in social work, then received her license in clinical social work. She worked at an alcohol and drug rehab and retired as a counselor from the VA.
Vivian and Carl were married 47 years when he passed in 2011. Although this was an extremely difficult time for her, Vivian moved into an apartment and recruited Kenny to teach her to use a computer and smartphone; she became adept at sending text messages and emails. We will remember this tenacity and strength, as well as her unwavering Christian faith, fierce love for her family, boundless generosity, and very strong will. She enjoyed music and was known to break into song at any given moment. What we wouldn't give to hear her sing again.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl Waters; granddaughter Tara Waters; and brother Wayne Snow.
She is survived by son Jay Glisson, of Macon. Ga.; son Kenny Waters (Leigh), of Dublin, Ga.; son Kyle Waters, of Dublin, Ga.; daughter Sylvia d'Entremont (Ron), of San Angelo, Tx; sister Cecelia Cloud (daughter Lisa), of Jacksonville, Fla.; brother Wendell Snow of Georgia; granddaughter Becca Nelson Sankey (Brian) of San Angelo, Tx; granddaughter Casey Smith (Matthew), of Kathleen, Ga.; grandson Dominic Waters (Heather) of Augusta, Ga.; grandson Ryan Glisson (Jennifer) of Maine; and four great-grandchildren.
There will not be a memorial service. Donations in Vivian's memory may me made to Methodist Children's Hospital in San Antonio, TX.
Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Dublin Chapel has charge of funeral arrangements.
