HICKS, Wayne Blanton, 84, exhaled his last earthly breath in his home beside his loving wife and inhaled his first breath in his eternal home in Heaven on September 19, 2024. Mr. Hicks was born in Richmond, Virginia on May 20, 1940 to Julian A. and Louise B. Hicks.
He grew up in the Church Hill Community of Richmond, Virginia. Wayne along with many family members gathered on Sundays to enjoy a wonderful meal which was prepared by his grandmother, or better known to those who loved her as "Datta". Datta's home was known as "1108", that being her house number. Many treasured memories took place at "1108". Uncles, aunts, cousins, and siblings shared their comings and goings of the passing week. One fond memory that Wayne had spoken of many times was the uncles homemade ice cream eating contest.
Wayne and his Childhood Bicycle Brigade of friends were Marshall Bond, Jimmy, Tommy Pee and others. They would peddle all throughout the Richmond countryside on their way to their secret hideouts for a little adventure.
Wayne graduated from Avondale High School in Avondale Estates, Ga., and attended Southern Technical Institute where he earned a Civil Engineering Degree.
Wayne and Joy were smitten with each other at first sight. Their first coffee date on July 4th, 1984 soon progressed to their engagement.
Their hearts and families were joined together on September 2, 1984.
Throughout his life he served as a Mason, Shriner, National
Guardsman, Softball and Basketball Coach, and a Sunday School Teacher. He was a master craftsman, a real estate broker, HUD housing appraiser, owned a Civil Engineering Co. "Quadra Tech" and Tucker Contracting Company.
Wayne was a member of Tucker First United Methodist Church and operated the church gym alongside his longtime friend Ottie Brown.
Wayne was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, great friend, mentor and faithful servant of Christ.
In 2021, Wayne and his wife Joy relocated from Tucker to her hometown of Wrightsville, Ga. They became members of the sweetest community church known as Wrightsville First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 Years, Joy; four children Traci Moore (Jack) of Kansas, Michele Cerrito of Ohio, Shon Brown of Stone Mountain Ga, and Julia Anne Hicks of Wrightsville, Ga; three grandchildren, Christopher King, Tyler King and Shelby Lyn Moore; one great-grandchild, Marley King; his treasured Mother in Law, Frances Oliver; Sister in Law, Charlene (Grayson)Carter, Brother in Law, Gregg(Susan)Oliver; cousins, Charles Lewis Blanton (Alice), Brian Hicks (Belinda), Judy Hicks Courtney, Barbara Jean Hicks, William "Bill" Sledd; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and treasured friends.
