Funeral services for Mr. Robert Wayne Powell, age 76, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Dublin, with interment to follow at 5:00 P.M. at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Warner Robins. Mr. Powell was born April 19, 1940 in Wrightsville, Georgia; he was preceded in death by his parents, the late Robert Roy Powell & Nellie Irene Sammons Powell and a son, Jeffrey Joel Powell. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and attended Georgia Institute of Technology. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict and retired as a Major from the United States Air Force. During his time with the Air Force he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 6 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and 1 V Device, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal-Asian area, Combat Readiness Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Following his retirement, he was a pilot for Continental Airlines for a number of years before retiring as Captain. He also served as a private pilot for many individuals and companies in the local area and he was also a driver for C&H Bus Lines. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Sons of the Confederacy. Mr. Powell passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016 following an extended illness. He is survived by his wife, Faye Wood Powell of Wrightsville, three sons, Tim (Julie) Powell of Spokane, WA, Chris (Kim) Powell of St. George, Utah and Scott Powell of Wrightsville, two daughters, Mindy Anderson of Roy, Utah and Kimberly (Jeff) Myers of Pasco, WA, a step-son, Cal (Kristie) Brantley of Wrightsville and a step-daughter, Deborah Brantley of Wrightsville, two brothers, Daley Powell of Wrightsville and Harry (Kay) Powell of Sautee-Nacoochee, 22 grandchildren, Jeff, Drew, Jason, Nick, Morgan, Walker, Garrett, Brock, Chloe, Brady, Cameron, Ally, Maddie, Owen, Rhett, Libby, Emmett, Seth, Chandler, Katii, Callie and Clay and a great-grandson, Jonathan. Pallbearers will be Cal Brantley, Roy Powell, Dean Mosher, Wayne Ivey, Ricky Powell and Rex Powell. Harvey Blizzard, Donald Blizzard, Billy Amerson, Bobby Amerson, Louie Poole, Joe Jordan, Clark Powell, Harold Channel, Clyde Evans, Leonard Powell, James Joiner, Wayne Herringdine, Jeff Powell, Sammy Price, Billy Price, David Carey, William Tanner, Joe Sumner, Billy Price and Jimmy Blizzard will all serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at the funeral home. Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Wrightsville Chapel has charge of funeral arrangements.
