Funeral services for Mr. W.D. Soles, age 87, will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Mt. Olive Church of the Nazarene with burial to follow at the church cemetery. Rev. Tim Tharp will officiate.
Mr. Soles was born May 10, 1931 in Treutlen County: he was preceded in death by his parents, the late Willie Delmas Soles, Sr. and Mattie Hudson Soles, his wife, Sara Nell Soles, three brothers, Edgar Soles, Aubrey Soles and Virgil Soles and a sister, Mamie Griffis. He was a member of Mt. Olive Church of the Nazarene and taught Sunday School for over 50 years. He was the recipient of The Second Mile Award, which recognizes those who show an exceptional spirit of faithful service in the pursuit of the mission "To make Christlike disciples in the nations." Presented through Sunday School and Discipleship Ministries International, it is intended for anyone deserving of recognition for going the second mile. He was a former school bus driver for Laurens County and was the owner/operator of the Elanma Restaurant for many years. Mr. Soles passed away Sunday, December 30, 2018.
He is survived by his three daughters, June (Gary) McCord of Adrian, Carol (Clay) Couey of Glenwood, Tina Sammons of Adrian, a brother, Robert (Mary Helen) Soles of Adrian, a sister, Fran Sauls of Adrian, three grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until funeral hour, Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at the church.
Pallbearers will be Autrey Brantley, Doyle Knight, William Page, Billy Thompson, Bill Giles and Kenny Wilcher.
His friends from the Side Track Coffee Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Wrightsville Chapel has charge of funeral arrangements.
