Funeral services for Wendell Charles Garnto, age 74, will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Dublin First Church of the Nazarene with interment to follow in Westview Cemetery in Wrightsville, Georgia. Rev. Don Hicks, Rev. Myron Wise, and Rev. Rick Tooley will officiate.
Mr. Garnto was born on April 6, 1949, in Vidalia, Georgia. He was the son of the late Ellis Garnto and Grace Register Garnto Woody. He was also preceded in death by his infant sister. He was a 1967 graduate of Laurens High School. He also attended Middle Georgia College. He was a retired insurance agent where he worked for many insurance companies throughout his career. He received many awards and accolades such as the Delta Presidents Club, Life of GA Agent of the Month numerous times, National Leaders Club of American General, Presidents Cabinet for Gulf Life, and Excellence Award for American General. He loved to play in the band and sing in chorus and quartet. In his earlier years he was an avid golfer. He finally got a hole in one in 2010. He was a faithful member of the Dublin First Church of the Nazarene where he was a member of the Terry Soles Sunday School Class, and he loved to sing in the church choir. Mr. Garnto passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his wife and dog, Precious.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine Carter Garnto of East Dublin; 2 daughters, Wendy (Daniel) Owens of Statesboro, and Erin (Laura) Thompson of Warner Robins; 2 stepdaughters, Alicia (Jeff) Norris of East Dublin, and Jamie (Joe) Powers of Dublin; a stepson, Will (Tosha) Newsome of Wrightsville; a brother, Sterling Garnto of O'Fallon, IL; a brother-in-law, Sammy (April) Young of Wrightsville; a sister-in-law, Patricia (Bobby) Williams of Dublin; 7 grandchildren, Emmalee (Glen) Jones, Ivy Thompson, Jackson Thompson, Landon Powers, Asher Powers, Cory Adams, and Cale Adams; 1 great-granddaughter; Gracie Ann Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also survived by his wonderful friends that were more like family and was also known as the "Gang", Bob and Elaine Gay, Cheryl and Jesse Braswell, Keith and Debra Smith.
Pallbearers will be Frank Pittman, Charlie Eddins, Marcus Clements, Wayne Foskey, David Price, and Jeff Baggett.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Terry Soles Sunday School Class, Our "Gang" Bob and Elaine Gay, Jesse and Cheryl Braswell, Keith and Debra Smith (Our Sweet Brothers and Sisters by Choice).
The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Monday, July 31, 2023, at the funeral home.
