Funeral services for Wilburn Bailey Payne, age 84, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 28, 2018 in the Chan Stanley Memorial Chapel of Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory, with interment to follow at Northview Cemetery. Rev. Matt Haywood and Rev. Glenn Jackson will officiate.
Mr. Payne was born September 20, 1933 in Dublin, Georgia. He was the son of the late David Taylor and Margaret Lucille Bailey Payne. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Farm Service Center, and he was a retired farmer. He was a member of Dudley Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher for at least 50 years. Mr. Payne passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Serenity Place.
Mr. Payne is survived by his loving wife, Alice Laverne Peacock Payne, a son, David Mark (Jan) Payne, 2 daughters, Debra (Glenn) Jackson, and Alma (Tommy) Sheffield, a brother, David Taylor (Nancy) Payne, Jr., a sister, Georgia Pearl Perry, 5 grandchildren, Jake Sheffield, Jessie Haywood, Julie Payne, Glenna Reeves, and Stacey Todd, 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Jake Sheffield, Donnie Reeves, Eddie Bozeman, David Payne, Tal Payne, and Alan Baggett.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Donald Alligood, Rubin Frazier, and Wayne Harrison.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the funeral home.
