Wyneve M. Newsome

Wyneve Meeks Newsome went to her heavenly home on July 13, 2025. She was born in Johnson County, Georgia on March 9, 1928, to the late Milledge Swain Meeks and Maggie Lindsey Meeks. She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Welton Elmore Newsome, sisters, Ila Mae Meeks Smith, Lizzie Lee Meeks Hale, brothers, Remus Meeks and Wilmer Meeks.


After graduating high school, she married and moved around with her husband working in the garment industry. She became a full-time mother in 1966 with the adoption of their son, Keith. She later became a school bus driver for Johnson County where she retired after more than 20 years.


She is survived by her son, Lindsey Keith Newsome (Lorie) and grandchildren, Austin Kane Newsome (Lindsey), Evan Scott Newsome (Lauren) and Ansley Eve Newsome (Alex), and several nieces and nephews.


She passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Wrightsville Manor where she was a resident for the last 3 years. The staff at Wrightsville Manor became very dear to her and they cared for her like family.


Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 11:00 A.M, Powell's Chapel Church in Kite where she was a member for over 50 years. She served in many capacities including teaching Sunday school, playing piano and fund raising. She will be laid to rest at Oaky Grove Cemetery. Rev. Sammie Newsome will officiate.


The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at the church prior to the service.


Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Wrightsville Chapel has charge of funeral arrangements.
